Location and Course

The 2022 edition of the US Open will take center stage at The Country Club in Brookline, MA. It's one of the country's oldest courses; it was established in 1882. The original designs were by Willie and Alex Campbell; however, Gil Hanse conducted course restoration before the 2013 US Amateur that Matt Fitzpatrick from England won.

It'll have a total par of 72 and an overall length of 7,445 yards with three Par-5s and three Par-3s. The last US Open held on those grounds was in 1988, when Nick Faldo was beaten by Curtis Strange in an 18-hole play-off.

Qualification

Amateurs and professionals will have the opportunity to show what they've got in the US Open Golf Tournament. The accommodation is, however, dependent on the players having a maximum United States Golf Association (USGA) 1.4 handicap index.

Male and female players are both welcome to participate. They can either qualify by being given direct entry via exemption or compete against each other. The player cap per competition is set at 156. To bypass the qualification round and receive direct entry to the tournament, they have to satisfy one of these conditions:

  1.   They must be USGA-exempted players
  2.   Be tournament winners of the last 10 years
  3.   Be the previous year's amateur championship winner
  4.   Are the US amateur runner-up
  5.   They're the US amateur winner currently
  6.   For the previous three years, be the player championship's victor
  7.   Be the winner of the most recent US senior open
  8.   Rank among the top 60 players in the Official World Golf Ranking 14 days before the tournament and within this distinguished group on the day of the competition
  9.  They're the current victor of the BMW PGA Championship
  10.  They're the current winner of the McCormack Medal (they have to be an amateur)
  11.   They must have qualified for the tour championship within the previous season

There are two ways to qualify for the US Open:

  •         Local Qualifiers

Local qualifiers are played across the USA. The number of golfers who proceed to the final qualification rounds is determined based on the field size at the various local qualifying events.

  •         Final Rounds of Qualification

This group consists of those players that advanced from the previous stage and those elite players that are exempted from the local qualifying rounds.

Date and Schedule

The local qualification for the 122nd edition of the championship started on 25th April 2022; it concluded on 23rd May. The golfers who make it past the final qualifying stage will automatically take part in the 2022 US Open Golf Tournament. These championship rounds are set to commence on Thursday, 16th June, and conclude on Sunday, 19th June; meanwhile, practice rounds are scheduled from Monday, 13th June to Wednesday, 15th June.

If you intend to watch the rounds, it's important to note the times for each day as they are all different.

Watching from Home

There are streaming options if you're unable to watch in person. Residents of the United States can follow up on the various rounds on NBC. The network liaised with USGA, and as such, NBC Sports is the recognized official broadcaster of the US Open Golf Tournament.
