Our 2019 Masters Recap

After an exciting and historic week, The Masters tournament has come to an end with the type of drama and passion it is well known for.

Maybe you heard, but Tiger Woods was back in the hunt for the first time in years defying what doctors, specialists, and golf fans had all predicted.

Tiger headed into hole 18 with a 2-point lead. As he watched his competitor finish his putt, he stood there in silence, head down, putter in hand. He confidently walked up to the hole and perfectly landed his ball only a foot away from the hole. He stepped up to the hole, lined everything up, and tapped the ball into the hole so elegantly. That was the moment everyone had been waiting for.

Sealing what was, arguably, one of the best comebacks in sports history, Tiger celebrated with his family, friends, and fans as he made his way off the green and into history. Celebrating his 5th green jacket after an 11-year major tournament drought, Tiger gave us the kind of energy and determination we have missed for so long.

While it is almost impossible to get any news on the tournament that isn’t filled almost exclusively with coverage of Tiger’s comeback story, we wanted to update you on Colin’s Masters Predictions and tell you the outcome of our Masters 1, 2, 3 promotion.

The Home Team

Let’s start with the Americans. Colin predicted that Dustin Johnson would have a great round and he did, finishing tied for second place with Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele. He also picked Justin Thomas to do well and, while he didn’t quite make it in the hunt, he did get a hole in one during the tournament which must have been an unbelievable experience. Another crowd favorite, Rickie Fowler looked good early in the week before falling victim to one of the toughest courses in the world, Augusta National.

The Rest of the World

As for the rest of the world’s contenders, Rory McIlroy, who was a big prediction pick for our customers, and for Colin, was never even in contention for the green jacket and a chat in Butler Cabin. John Rahm, who Colin also mentioned, had some moments of brilliance but ended up tied for 9th after slipping on the final round. One international player that showed up on the course (but not in our picks) was Francesco Molinary who had a chance of winning heading into Sunday, but fell apart after a water ball on #12 that has been the demise of so many promising Masters final rounds.

Sadly, for our customers (but not for our claims department) we didn’t have anyone who correctly predicted the top 3 finishers in order. No one even had Xander Schauffele on their board. But that’s what’s great about The Masters. Every year it brings out the best, and the worst, of your golf game and makes you decide how you’re going to play it. Even though Colin and the rest of our entries came up short this time, I have a feeling we will be seeing all of these names at the top of the leaderboard for years to come.
